The annual County of Stettler Community Service Awards night was held on Friday, January 18th at the Big Valley Community Hall. The Big Valley Agricultural Society hosted the event and the Society's President, Dan Webster, acted as Master of Ceremonies. The Rod Donald Memorial Award was presented to Village of Donalda Councillor Marty Larson for his efforts volunteering in a variety of roles for the Donalda community. Currently the President of the Donalda & District Museum Society and a Village of Donalda Councillor, Marty has been deeply involved in both historical research for the society and in a variety of other volunteer roles in Donalda. Marty was nominated for the award by the Donalda & District Ag. Society. The 2007 Rod Donald Memorial Award was sponsored by Stettler Scotiabank. The ATCO Electric Cultural, Arts & Heritage Awards (formerly the Barb Morley Memorial Service Award) was awarded to Mr. John Beaver, also of the Donalda area. John was unable to attend the ceremony and his award was accepted on his behalf by Forrest Hagen of the Donalda Arts Society . John has been deeply involved in the arts in the Heart of Alberta for many years. One of his most recent projects was to create the "Plowman" statue for the Village of Donalda Complex. The final award presented was the Stettler Dodge Community Service Award (formerly the George 'Buster' Browne Memorial Service Award). This year's winners were John and Jeanne Pearson. John is a former County of Stettler Councillor and Jeanne works for the Battle River Research Group and as the Donalda Public Library librarian. Both Mr. and Mrs. Pearson have been very involved in numerous volunteer activities in and around the Village of Donalda. Nominations for all the awards are made by the various agricultural societies around the County of Stettler and the winners are chosen by a committee made up of members of the County of Stettler Recreation Board.
