‘Bird genes’ keep 87-year-old Walter Mueller in full flight
Grace and Walter Mueller With his keen eyesight, expert navigation and white hair you might be forgiven for mistaking Walter Mueller for a bird of prey.
Even his wife, Grace, says during his creation some extras must
have been thrown in for good measure, but the octogenarian himself sums
it up best.
“During evolution there must have been some bird genes put into my system,” laughed Mueller, from his home in Mission Heights.
At 87, Mueller could very well be one of the oldest glider
pilots in the Peace Country – he holds that honour in the Grande
Prairie Soaring Society. But that matters little as he is just as agile
and active as those half his age.
“Slow down? Not yet,” he chuckled some more. “I am still pretty fit.”
Recently Mueller did experience something that will make for conversation fodder for years to come.

photograph by Jack Clark The band which started out in the Stettler and the Heart of Alberta region 40 years ago, and is still going strong, has revamped their website. Check it out at this link: Tacoy Ryde.
The site includes bios of the members, concert news, reviews, photo galleries, sample songs and more.
Tacoy Ryde would also like to thank everybody who attended their recent 40th anniversary show at Rochon Sands.

Children of bad people don't deserve justice! So Steven Harper is now on public record as saying he has no intention of asking for the repatriation of Omar Khadr - this despite the growing evidence Khadr’s rights were violated,
and it was done so with Canada knowing about it (and it started
lamentably with the Paul Martin-led Liberal government), and despite
growing pressure internationally and domestically on the Canadian
government to do so.
This is not a surprise, but what Harper said yesterday about why the
US should continue to deal with Khadr seems to me to show his utter
contempt in the Canadian justice system:
He argued that the special U.S. military trial that Mr.
Khadr faces – in which he does not have the same standard of legal
representation and rights he would in an ordinary criminal trial – is
the only way he could be brought to answer the charges against him…”frankly, we do not have a real alternative to that process now to get to the truth about those accusations”

40th Anniversary Gig Tacoy Ryde returns to the Heart of Alberta to celebrate their 40th anniversary. They will be performing at the Village of Rochon Sands community hall (Buffalo Lake) Saturday, July 26th at 9:00 PM.
From tacoyryde.com:
“This band is an Alberta institution.”
- CKUA Radio
“In an age when attitude frequently overshadows substance and the tuning of instruments can be an afterthought, Edmonton's Tacoy Ryde remains one of Western Canada's best rock bands.”
- Peter North, Edmonton Journal
Tacoy Ryde was first conceived almost 40 years ago in the minds of a group of twelve year olds from Stettler, Alberta in the summer of 1967 (commonly referred to as ‘the Summer of Love’).
